Being banished to the basement does not always have to be punishment! Today, homeowners with a basement space in square feet is prime. Everything from recreation rooms, game rooms, media centers, music rooms, poker rooms, exercise areas, office space and, of course, it’s original purpose, storage space, is to find a new life in the space below.
The definition of a basement is an area that is wholly or partly below ground level. This should not be confused with the crawl space of a house, since another part of the definition is that a person must be able to stand in the area.
The amount of square feet in the basement is generally equivalent to that on the ground floor. In most homes, it’s like having another entire level of living space, which can add up a bit! The options for using that much space really is limited only by imagination from space usually have electricity and plumbing.
The basement can be separated into different rooms or can be a big open space. If this part of your home is “finished”, then it is considered lucky. If not, or if space is on the list of tasks remodeling, there are issues to consider before proceeding with the project. First, it is important to identify “problems” such as stains down roofs, boilers and pipes attached. Secondly, the space must not leak. Uncontrolled moisture will cause a number of dangerous and harmful, including the growth of mold.

The task can be overwhelming, and a good way to start is identifying the activities that will probably take place in space. As for the pictures or what others have done it always helps to start the imagination.
Note that the basement will have little or no natural light in order to consider this when planning the design. Slowly but surely this area of spring to life and you’ll wonder how you lived without it!
